Uncontested 2-0 Victory against FC La Chaux-de-Fonds in First Helvetia Swiss Cup Round
In front of 1600 spectators at the Stade de la Charrière in La Chaux-de-Fonds, FC Zurich has reached the second round of the Helvetia Swiss Cup tonight. Just eight minutes in, Zurich’s Sangoné Sarr opened the score and put the visitors 1-0 up – Alain Nef had deflected a corner with his head to provide the assist.
In the 20th minute, the team of head coach Uli Forte managed to double their lead to 2-0: Following a magnificent lob ball by Marco Schönbächler, FC Zurich’s Slovenian striker Dzengis Cavusevic escaped the home side’s defense; his perfectly timed pass found Roberto Rodriguez, who had no trouble to convert this opportunity, increasing his team’s advantage to two goals.
Throughout the remainder of the game, neither team managed to create any clear-cut scoring opportunities for themselves. FC La Chaux-de-Fonds were not able to show a reaction, while FC Zurich was happy with their 2-0 lead and the qualification for the next cup round.
In their next Challenge League home game, FC Zurich will be facing Neuchâtel Xamax FCS this coming Monday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).
