FC Zurich draw Steaua Bucharest 1:1

FC Zurich have shown a convincing and combative performance in their third Europa League group game tonight. And thanks to a goal by Moussa Koné four minutes before the final whistle, they achieved a 1:1 draw with Steaua Bucharest.

The visitors from Zurich had a very confident start to this game, while the home side only managed to create dangerous opportunities with some individual efforts, such as by Adrian Popa approximately fifteen minutes in when his shot bounced off the outside of the post. During the first half hour, FC Zurich even had more chances than their opponents, but they let two promising opportunities by Moussa Koné and Adrian Winter go by unused.

The hosts kept up their pressure on FC Zurich also at the beginning of the second half and got very close to the opening goal when a curled ball by Adrian Popa landed on top of the crossbar after just a few seconds.

But unfortunately, Steaua Bucharest still took the lead on 63 minutes, when Adrian Popa’s cross found Goran Golubovic, who deflected the ball into the net to put his side 1:0 in front.

FC Zurich, however, did not give up just yet and pushed for the equalizer. And these efforts paid off on 86 minutes when Moussa Koné converted a perfectly timed cross by Dzengis Cavusevic to tie the game at 1:1 – a well-deserved draw for the visitors from Zurich.

After three group matches and four points, FC Zurich are now in second place together with Osmanlispor; leaders of the group are Villarreal CF.
