FC Zurich beat FC Thun 4-3 and qualify for the semi-final of the Swiss Cup
FC Zurich have won their Swiss Cup quarter-final against FC Thun 4-3 tonight.
Just eight minutes in, Dejan Sorgic deflected the ball and put the visitors from Thun 1-0 in front. FC Zurich, on the other hand, appeared unimaginative, devoid of ideas and made too many mistakes. And to make things worse, Simone Rapp even doubled FC Thun’s lead to 2-0 on 24 minutes.
Shortly after the half-time break, Raphael Dwamena got through on the left wing, his pass found Moussa Koné, who managed to beat Thun keeper Ruberto from an acute angle (51st). FC Zurich were now vehemently pushing for the equalizer, but on 77 minutes, FC Thun took advantage of a fast counterattack to restore their two-goal cushion.
FC Zurich, however, did not give up and were ultimately rewarded for their efforts: In the 85th minute, Michael Frey headed the ball home following a corner kick by Roberto Rodriguez to make the score 2-3. And in the very last minute, defender Rasmus Thelander even equalized the score at 3-3. But this was not the end of it just yet as in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Michael Frey got his second of the night with a powerful shot to put the final score to 4-3 for FC Zurich.
Next Sunday afternoon, 3 December 2017, FC Zurich will be facing FC St Gallen away (kick-off 4pm).
