FC Zurich beat FC Thun 2-1
FC Zurich have won their first home game of the new season 2-1 against FC Thun this afternoon.
From kick-off, the FC Thun players focused their game on a well-organized defense and fast counterattacks. In the 35th minute, one of these paid off when Matteo Tosetti caught FC Zurich keeper Andris Vanins off-guard from an acute angle and put the visitors 0-1 in front.
FC Zurich got into the game a little better after the half-time break and following a long throw-in by Pa Modou, Michael Frey put the score level at 1-1 on 51 minutes – it was his first goal for FC Zurich. And scoring this goal certainly was a good feeling for the striker, who had missed from the spot in Zurich’s last match against Grasshopper Club (2-0).
23 minutes after his equalizer, Frey flicked on a corner to Alain Nef at the far post with his head, and Nef headed the ball into the net to put the home side 2-1 in the lead. After the final whistle, match-winner Frey said: “We weren’t close enough to our opponents during the first half. I’m really pleased to have scored my first goal for FC Zurich, particularly because we managed to keep the three points in Zurich!”
Next Saturday evening, August 5th, 2017, FC Zurich will be facing FC Lugano away (kick-off at the Stadio Cornaredo 7pm).
