FC Zurich beat FC St Gallen 3-1 away
FC Zurich have won their Super League away game against FC St Gallen 3-1 this afternoon.
After just seven minutes, FC Zurich took the lead when Victor Pálsson beat St Gallen keeper Lopar with a follow-up shot after the keeper had deflected a shot by Kevin Rüegg off target. It was the first Super League goal for FC Zurich’s Icelandic midfielder. And just a few minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage to 2-0: A pass by Roberto Rodriguez found Adrian Winter, who controlled the ball with his chest and beat Lopar with a powerful shot into the top corner of the net (12th). It was also Winter’s first goal of the current season.
The FC Zurich players continued to control the action on the pitch and early on in the game, they had several scoring opportunities thanks to some dangerous breakaways. The best of these chances was missed by Stephen Odey – who was in the starting line-up for the first time – when he appeared all alone in front of Lopar but did not manage to beat the keeper.
The home side from St Gallen, however, got one back (2-1) in first-half stoppage time when Roman Buess took advantage of a blunder in the FC Zurich defense.
During the second forty-five minutes, both teams had a few opportunities but today’s game was only decided in the 82nd minute when Raphael Dwamena got the better of his opponent and scored the 3-1 for the visitors. Even though the home side came very close to another goal on 88 minutes when Roman Buess’s shot hit the crossbar, the score remained 3-1 for FC Zurich until the final whistle.
Next Sunday afternoon, 10 December 2017, FC Zurich will be facing FC Lucerne at home (kick-off 4pm).
