FC Zurich beat FC Lausanne-Sport 2-0
FC Zurich have won their Super League home game against FC Lausanne-Sport 2-0 this afternoon.
During the first half of today’s encounter, both teams focused their efforts on a very solid defense, and FC Zurich were lacking inspiration and creativity as far as decisive passes or attacks through the wings were concerned.
Throughout the second forty-five minutes, both the home team as well as the visitors from Lausanne then had more space and managed to create several opportunities – the more dangerous of them for FC Zurich within just a few seconds: First, Lausanne keeper Thomas Castella saved a dangerous shot by Sangoné Sarr, Dwamena got the rebound but his effort bounced off the post, and finally Pa Modou’s shot was blocked by a Lausanne defender (52nd minute).
The visitors also had two promising scoring chances – a shot by Benjamin Kololli ended up in the side netting. And shortly thereafter, four Lausanne players stormed towards the Zurich goal, with only Pa Modou and keeper Vanins left in defense, but fortunately, Zurich’s Latvian keeper managed to deflect Kololli’s shot.
After about an hour, Michael Frey finally put FC Zurich 1-0 in the lead with a powerful and precise shot from the edge of the penalty area. And in the 81st minute, Alain Nef scored the decisive 2-0 for the home side with a strong header following a well-placed cross by Adrian Winter.
Next Wednesday evening, 29 November, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Thun for the Swiss Cup quarter final (kick-off 7.30pm) before they will be facing FC St Gallen away in their next Super League game on Sunday, 3 December (kick-off 4pm).
