FC Zurich draw FC Basel 0-0
FC Zurich’s home game against FC Basel at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a goalless draw tonight.
Both teams had their share of the action on the pitch during the opening minutes of today’s encounter. After 15 minutes, Michael Frey took control of the ball with his chest and attempted an overhead kick – but his shot was not accurate enough. Approximately ten minutes later, it was again Frey who tried his luck with a powerful shot, but he aimed too high and the ball flew over the crossbar by a narrow margin.
Umaru Bangura came close to opening the score following a free kick by Rodriguez on 54 minutes, but his header just whizzed past the left post.
At the other end of the pitch, former FC Zurich player Dimitri Oberlin tried to beat Vanins with a free kick; the striker’s shot was off target, though. Only three minutes later, Oberlin was unlucky when he missed a cross by Renato Steffen by a whisker. And just another two minutes later, Zurich keeper Vanins managed to keep out Kevin Bua’s free kick thanks to a miraculous save.
Since neither of the two teams managed to convert any of their opportunities until the final whistle, tonight’s game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Next Saturday evening, 4 November 2017, FC Zurich will be facing FC Sion away at the Stade de Tourbillon (kick-off 7pm).
