FC Zurich draw FC Lugano 0-0
FC Zurich’s away game against FC Lugano has ended in a goalless draw this afternoon. The temperatures were very hot and midsummer-like today and after the game, FC Zurich were certainly happy with this one point.
The FC Zurich players had the better start to the game and put their opponents under pressure from kick-off, forcing them into mistakes in the build-up. After approximately ten minutes, however, FC Lugano had two dangerous scoring opportunities following a powerful cross from Younes Bnou Marzouk and when the same player appeared all alone in front of FC Zurich keeper Andris Vanins. But fortunately for the visitors from Zurich, his shot hit the outside of the left post.
Both teams then neutralized each other throughout most of the remainder of today’s encounter. In stoppage time of the first half, FC Lugano’s Carlinhos headed the goal into the Zurich net, scoring the supposed 1-0 for the home side. Referee Fedayi San, however, refused the goal due to an offside position.
FC Zurich had their best scoring opportunity in the 66th minute when Sarr and Brunner played a short corner and Alain Nef’s header was just wide.
After the final whistle, FC Zurich head coach Uli Forte was happy with this point: “We’re happy that we’ve won this point. We know how strong FC Lugano is. Both teams had their chances to score a goal today and, therefore, I think this draw is a fair result”.
Next Thursday evening, August 10th, 2017, FC Zurich will be facing FC Sion at home (kick-off 8pm).
