FC Zurich draw FC St Gallen 1-1
The Super League game between FC Zurich and FC St Gallen at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a 1-1 draw tonight.
With their very first and also only really dangerous scoring opportunity during the first half, FC Zurich opened the score on 19 minutes: Winter’s pass found Rodriguez, who played the ball into the path of Koné, and Zurich’s Senegalese striker scored the 1-0 for the home side with a powerful shot. The visitors from St Gallen had just one scoring opportunity by Buess, but his shot was way off target and the ball flew over the crossbar.
Consequently, FC Zurich finished the first half with a well-deserved 1-0 lead. The defense of head coach Uli Forte’s team was very well organized but unfortunately, their offensive actions often lacked the required precision.
It was again FC Zurich who had the first promising opportunity of the second half. Unfortunately, though, Winter’s shot was not strong and precise enough. Shortly thereafter, Aleksic equalized the score for the visitors from St Gallen in the 51st minute – it was just about their only opportunity of the game.
Only now did the home side intensify their attacks on goal and manage to create four top opportunities for themselves (Koné, Rodriguez (2) and Haile-Selassie) during the final 25 minutes of tonight’s encounter. However, none of these chances was converted and the score remained 1-1 until the final whistle.
On Saturday, September 16th, 2017, FC Zurich will be facing FC Bassersdorf away in the Swiss Cup (kick-off 4pm), before they will be playing two Super League away games in Lausanne (Wednesday, September 20th) and against FC Basel (Saturday, September 23rd).
