2:2 draw between FC Zurich and FC Winterthur
The Challenge League home game between FC Zurich and FC Winterthur at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a 2:2 draw tonight.
FC Zurich’s performance tonight was not very convincing, particularly so during the opening 45 minutes. A first dangerous situation developed when Oliver Buff dribbled his way through the box and went down – the referee’s whistle, however, remained silent. Shortly thereafter, Buff had to leave the pitch due to an injury.
FC Zurich had the first scoring opportunity of the evening 22 minutes in: Dwamena’s low cross found Rodriguez, but his deflection was off target and the ball whizzed past the far post by a few centimeters. Just before the half-time whistle it was then the visitors’ turn to celebrate when, completely out of the blue, Radice put FC Winterthur 1:0 in front.
Adrian Winter missed a first clear-cut chance to equalize on 57 minutes; Marchesano had provided the assist. During the final 20 minutes of the game, young Ghanaian striker Dwamena turned out to be the man of the match, scoring two goals for his side: On 73 minutes, a high cross by Winter found Schönbächler whose overhead kick went wrong but became the perfect assist for Dwamena, who slid the ball home to equalize the score at 1:1.
This score lasted only one minute though as FC Winterthur’s Manuel Sutter put the visitors in front again with their very next attack. But FC Zurich did not give up and kept on pushing vehemently for the equalizer – and these efforts paid off in the 86th minute when again Dwamena converted a rebound off the Winterthur keeper to put the final score to 2:2.
Next Saturday evening, 1 April, FC Zurich will be facing FC Schaffhausen at home (kick-off 7pm).
