FC Zurich suffer 1-3 defeat against FC Aarau
FC Zurich have lost their away game against FC Aarau 1-3 tonight.
Already with their very first shot on goal just two minutes in, FC Aarau’s Geoffrey Tréand opened the score and put the home side 1-0 in front. Gilles Yapi had deflected the ball slightly.
And only 18 minutes had been played when FC Aarau doubled their lead to two goals. Once again, it was Tréand who scored his second goal of the evening, finishing off a fast counter-attack with a header; Ivan Audino had provided the assist.
Following an FC Aarau free-kick on 28 minutes, Igor Nganga found himself completely unmarked in front of Andris Vanins, but fortunately for the visitors, the Zurich keeper managed to deny FC Aarau their third goal of the evening and keep his team in the game. Both teams then had several excellent scoring opportunities, among them a header by Ghanaian striker Dwamena, but the ball was aimed to high and whizzed over the crossbar.
When Alain Nef finally scored the first goal for the visitors on 68 minutes, his 1-2 brought FC Zurich back into the game – and they kept on pushing for the equalizer. However, this gave FC Aarau more space for counterattacks, one of which was converted by Damir Mehidic in the 82nd minute to put the final score to 3-1 in favor of the home team.
Next Monday evening, FC Zurich will be facing FC Le Mont at home (kick-off 7:45pm).
