FC Zurich lose Zurich derby 0-4
FC Zurich have lost the Zurich derby 0-4 tonight.
Zurich striker Michael Frey had the first good scoring opportunity for FC Zurich after eleven minutes of the game, but Grasshoppers keeper Heinz Lindner’s magnificent save denied Frey his sixth goal of the season.
In the 15th minute, it was then the visitors who opened the score when Lukas Andersen surprised Andris Vanins and beat the Zurich keeper with a low shot in the near corner from an acute angle. FC Zurich tried to show an immediate reaction to this deficit, but they were not able to crack the well-organized Grasshoppers defense for the time being.
Two opportunities by Raphael Dwamena in the 29th minute and then by Roberto Rodriguez following a cross by Cédric Brunner seven minutes later were unfortunately left unused.
Instead, it was Nedim Bajrami who increased the visitors’ lead to 2-0 after 56 minutes. And when Zurich defender Umaru Bangura fouled Marco Djuricin in the box just four minutes later, things started to look really dire for the home side, since Djuricin converted the penalty without any problems and put the score to 3-0 for Grasshoppers.
FC Zurich then had several opportunities of their own through Victor Pálsson (63rd minute), Adrian Winter a couple of minutes later and Raphael Dwamena (81st minute) but unfortunately, the home side did not manage to get on the board tonight. Instead, Cédric Zesiger put the final score to 0-4 on 88 minutes.
Next Tuesday evening, 24 October 2017, FC Zurich will be facing FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy away in the Swiss Cup (kick-off 8pm) and on Saturday, 28 October 2017, the team of head coach Uli Forte will be hosting FC Basel at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 7pm).
