FC Zurich suffer 1-2 defeat against FC Lucerne
FC Zurich have lost this year’s last home game against FC Lucerne 1-2 this afternoon.
The home side had a very concentrated and focused beginning of the game and pushed the visitors from Lucerne into their defense. And after just a few minutes, it looked like FC Zurich had opened the score thanks to a goal by Koné, but the referee ruled the goal out due to an offside position by Stephen Odey.
Shortly thereafter, it was then FC Lucerne who scored the first goal of the afternoon: After FC Zurich had lost possession of the ball in their own half of the pitch, Christian Schneuwly put the visitors 1-0 in front on 11 minutes. FC Zurich, however, did not let this early deficit get to them – quite to the contrary: In the 24th minute, Odey got through in the box following a one-two with Koné and equalized the score 1-1. It was the Nigerian striker’s first goal in an official match with the club’s first team. But in the 36th minute, it was again FC Lucerne who took the lead when Knezevic finished off a counterattack and scored the 2-1.
During the opening minutes of the second half, the visitors had the opportunity to score the 1-3, but a long-range shot by Marvin Schulz bounced off the crossbar. Since FC Zurich did not manage to equalize the score until the final whistle, they suffered their second home defeat of the current season.
Next Sunday afternoon, 17 December 2017, FC Zurich will be facing FC Lausanne-Sport away (kick-off 4pm).
