FC Zurich sign Nigerian striker Stephen Odey

19-year-old Nigerian striker Stephen Odey joins FC Zurich from MFM FC Lagos with immediate effect. He has signed a contract until the end of the 2020/2021 season.

FC Zurich and Odey had already agreed on this transfer a few weeks ago, but clearance by FIFA had been outstanding. Clearance has now been received today, which makes the 182 cm tall striker eligible to play for FC Zurich as of now.

During the past two years, Odey played for MFM FC Lagos in Nigeria’s first division and became the league’s top scorer (18 goals) last season. Last June, Odey made his international debut with Nigeria’s national team in a test match against Togo.

Thomas Bickel is pleased with this signing: “Stephen became the top scorer in his country and was called up to the national team at the age of just 19. We’re very happy that he’d like to make the next step in his career at our club.”
