FC Zurich draw FC Sion 3-3
The Super League game between FC Zurich and FC Sion at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a 3-3 draw this afternoon.
Although FC Zurich had the first promising scoring opportunities in the 5th and 6th minutes of the game, the visitors from the Canton of Valais took the lead with their very first chance of the afternoon when Jan Bamert scored the 1-0 for FC Sion with a header following a corner just seven minutes in. FC Zurich’s efforts to equalize the score were stifled in the 29th minute when defender Rasmus Thelander was sent off with a straight red card for a professional foul – a controversial decision by the referee.
And things got even worse for FC Zurich in the 56th minute when Bastien Toma doubled the visitors’ lead to 2-0 with a curled shot past keeper Brecher. Just four minutes later, however, the home side got one back as Michael Frey finished off a well-timed one-two with Raphael Dwamena. Only one minute after his first goal, it was then again Frey who converted a follow-up shot in the box to get his second of the afternoon and equalize the score at 2-2. And in the 72nd minute, Frey got the better of Sion defender André Neitzke and slotted the ball home, beating Fickentscher in the visitors’ goal and scoring a hat-trick to put the score to 3-2. But unfortunately, FC Zurich did not manage to defend this advantage until the final whistle to secure the three points as Grgic equalized the score at 3-3 just two minutes later thanks to a deflected shot that found its way past Zurich keeper Brecher.
Next Sunday afternoon, 6 May 2018, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Lausanne-Sport (kick-off 4pm).
