FC Zurich beat Bayer 04 Leverkusen 3:2
FC Zurich have won their home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen 3-2 tonight and have celebrated their third win in the third game of the UEFA Europa League group stage.
With just three minutes of the game gone, FC Zurich had their first dangerous scoring opportunity by Toni Domgjoni after a delivery by Adrian Winter but unfortunately, Domgjoni failed to beat keeper Lukas Hradecky to put the home side 1:0 in front. The action on the pitch was well-balanced during the opening minutes of the game, but FC Zurich had a couple of promising opportunities when keeper Hradecky denied Stephen Odey in the 27th minute and, a few moments later, a shot by Benjamin Kolloli missed its target and the ball landed in the side netting.
Shortly before the half-time break, FC Zurich then scored the opening goal when Kevin Rüegg dribbled past two defenders and played a magnificent pass into the penalty area where Antonio Marchesano converted his delivery to put Zurich 1:0 up (44th minute). However, just a few minutes after the break, Bayer 04 Leverkusen got back into the game and took the 2:1 lead thanks to two goals by Karim Bellarabi (50th and 53rd minute).
FC Zurich did not give up, though, and managed to equalize the score again just a few minutes later when Toni Domgjoni scored the 2:2. And things got even better for the home team in the 78th minute as Odey scored FC Zurich’s much-celebrated and game-winning 3:2 following a pass into the box by Pa Modou.
Next Sunday afternoon, 28 October 2018, FC Zurich will be facing FC St Gallen away (kick-off 4pm).
