FC Zurich beat FC Concordia Basel 6:0
FC Zurich have won their first round away game of the Helvetia Swiss Cup against FC Concordia Basel 6:0 tonight and have qualified for the round of 32 of the competition.
After some evenly balanced opening minutes of today’s match during which FC Concordia Basel were able to keep pace with the visitors from Zurich, the team of head coach Ludovic Magnin assumed control of the game and took the early lead in the 14th minute when Pa Modou dribbled past several opponents with a magnificent solo effort and beat the Concordia keeper thanks to a well-placed strike into the bottom right corner of the net to put the visitors 1:0 in front. Shortly thereafter, in the 20th minute, a direct free-kick by Kololli from around 25 meters out was narrowly off target; but only eight minutes later, Odey regained the ball and beat the keeper to double FC Zurich’s lead to 2:0. Within the next eight minutes, FC Zurich then increased their advantage to 4:0 thanks to two goals scored by Marchesano (33rd minute) and Kololli (36th minute).
During the second half, Odey scored the 5:0 following a well-timed pass by Rodriguez (63rd minute) and a couple of minutes before the final whistle, Marchesano found the back of the net again to put the final score to 6:0. Thanks to tonight’s victory, FC Zurich have qualified for the round of 32 of the Helvetia Swiss Cup.
Next Sunday afternoon, 26 August 2018, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Basel at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 4pm).
