FC Zurich beat FC Breitenrain 4:2
In their second-round game of the Helvetia Swiss Cup, FC Zurich beat FC Breitenrain 4:2 tonight and have qualified for the last 16 of the competition.
From kick-off, the visitors from Zurich were in control of the action on the pitch and took the lead in the opening minutes of the match when Stephen Odey headed the ball into the FC Breitenrain net just four minutes into the game to put his side 1:0 in front. And in the 23rd minute, FC Zurich doubled their advantage to 2:0 thanks to a magnificent and powerful shot from about 25 meters out by Benjamin Kololli. The score then remained unchanged until five minutes before the half-time whistle when defender Alain Nef’s header on 40 minutes following a corner-kick by Pa Modou found the back of the net to put the score to 3:0 in favor of FC Zurich.
But in the 82nd minute, Raphael Kehrli got one back for the home team (1:3), and in the 90th minute, Miroslav Konopek even scored the 2:3 to get FC Breitenrain back into the game. However, the match was finally decided in stoppage time when a goal by Rodriguez put the final score to 4:2 for FC Zurich (93rd minute).
Thanks to tonight’s victory, FC Zurich have qualified for the last 16 of the Helvetia Swiss Cup where they will be facing FC Red Star Zurich on 31 October or 1 November.
Next Thursday evening, 20 September 2018, FC Zurich will be facing AEK Larnaca FC away in their first UEFA Europa League group game (kick-off 9pm).
