FC Zurich beat FC Basel 4-1
FC Zurich have won their Super League home game against FC Basel 4-1 this afternoon.
After a goalless first half, Raphael Dwamena opened the score in the 49th minute following a perfectly timed delivery by Pa Modou to put FC Zurich 1-0 in front. In the 62nd minute, it was then Pa Modou’s turn to score the second Zurich goal of the afternoon to double the home side’s lead to 2-0. Shortly after, former FC Zurich player Dimitri Oberlin had an excellent opportunity to get one back for FC Basel and put the score to 2-1, but his header was saved by Zurich keeper Yanick Brecher.
n the 82nd minute, striker Michael Frey’s solo effort and clinical finish increased the score to 3-0 and in injury time, Marchesano found the back of the net with a magnificent shot from long range, putting the home team 4-0 up. Just moments later, FC Basel got their consolation goal when Albian Ajeti put the final score to 4-1.
After the final whistle, Antonio Marchesano said: "Today’s game was very important for us because we absolutely wanted to beat FC Basel, which we certainly managed to do today. Even before kick-off, we were very motivated and then showed an excellent performance throughout the whole 90 minutes."
Next Saturday evening, 19 May 2018, FC Zurich will be facing FC Lugano away in their last Super League game of the season (kick-off 7pm).
