FC Zurich beat FC Lucerne 1:0
FC Zurich have won their home game against FC Lucerne 1:0 this afternoon.
FC Zurich had their first promising scoring opportunity just two minutes in when Victor Pálsson got his head on the ball and almost opened the score – but unfortunately, his header was slightly off target and the ball flew past the post by just a few inches. Two minutes later, FC Lucerne’s Christian Schneuwly didn’t manage to put the ball in the empty Zurich goal. It was then again the home side’s turn in the 8th minute: Kevin Rüegg got the ball in the box following a one-two with Benjamin Kololli, but his shot from an acute angle was saved by FC Lucerne keeper Mirko Salvi.
Until the end of the first half, FC Zurich had a few good chances by Andreas Maxsø (header), Adrian Winter (powerful shot from around 16 meters) and Toni Domgjoni (shot from long range).
In the 55th minute, FC Zurich finally took the 1:0 lead thanks to a goal scored by Stephen Odey. And the home side had some more opportunities to increase their advantage; however, a shot from long range by Kololli was aimed a bit too high and the ball went over the crossbar. And just one minute later, Marchesano’s curled shot whizzed past the left post by a couple of centimeters.
On 90 minutes, Blessing Eleke then almost got the equalizer for FC Lucerne but luckily enough, his shot didn’t find its way into the net and bounced off the crossbar so that FC Zurich got to celebrate a 1:0 win.
Next Thursday evening, 27 September 2018, FC Zurich will be facing FC Sion away (kick-off 8pm).
