FC Zurich beat FC St Gallen 2-1
FC Zurich have won their away game against FC St Gallen 2-1 this afternoon.
The visitors from Zurich had their first dangerous scoring opportunity of the afternoon just six minutes in when a shot by Michael Frey from approximately 20 meters out bounced off the post. And just a few moments later, FC St Gallen keeper Dejan Stojanovic managed to keep out Alain Nef’s shot from long range.
Both teams then had several opportunities, but the score remained goalless until just before the half-time whistle when Marco Aratore opened the score to put the home side from St Gallen 1-0 in front on 43 minutes.
During the opening minutes of the second half, the FC St Gallen players focused their efforts on defense and made it very difficult for FC Zurich to create any promising opportunities. But in the 66th minute, Dwamena’s clever pass behind the back of the St Gallen defenders found Fabian Rohner whose curled shot into the upper left corner of the net from the edge of the box equalized the score at 1-1 – it was Rohner’s first Super League goal.
FC Zurich subsequently had a couple of chances as Antonio Marchesano’s shot hit the crossbar on 70 minutes and Frey missed the empty goal by a few centimeters just three minutes later. But finally, in the 77th minute and following a corner kick by Rodriguez, Pálsson flicked a header towards the middle of the box where Dwamena tapped the ball over the line to score the game-winning 2-1 for FC Zurich.
Next Sunday afternoon, 18 February 2018, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Lucerne at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 4pm).
