FC Zurich draw FC Lucerne 1-1
FC Zurich’s home game against FC Lucerne at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a 1-1 draw this afternoon.
During approximately the first 20 minutes of today’s match, the home side from Zurich managed to create a couple of promising scoring opportunities for Dwamena (his shot was just wide), Michael Frey (shot from the edge of the box that was saved by Lucerne keeper Omlin) and again for Dwamena whose header whizzed past the post by a few centimeters.
The visitors then also had their first chances of the afternoon and ultimately opened the score (1-0) in the 28th minute: Zurich keeper Andris Vanins was able to save a powerful cross by Tomi Juric, but unfortunately Schneuwly was lurking in front of the goal and found himself in the perfect spot to convert the rebound from close range.
Just before the half-time whistle, Juric almost doubled FC Lucerne’s lead to 2-0; the FC Zurich players had to thank their keeper Vanins since he deflected the shot with a miraculous save.
On 60 minutes, a well-timed cross by Antonio Marchesano into the Lucerne box found Dwamena, who headed the ball into the back of the net to equalize the score. FC Zurich now pushed for the winning goal but did not manage to turn the game around. Consequently, the score remained 1-1 until the final whistle.
In their next two games, FC Zurich will be facing Grasshopper Club twice: On Sunday, 25 February 2018, the team of head coach Uli Forte will be playing a Super League away game against their local rivals (kick-off 4pm). And three days later (Wednesday, 28 February 2018), FC Zurich will be hosting the same opponent in the Swiss Cup semi-final (kick-off 8.15pm).
