FC Zurich draw FC Lugano 1-1
The away game between FC Zurich and FC Lugano has ended in a 1-1 draw tonight.
Neither FC Zurich nor FC Lugano managed to create any clear-cut scoring opportunities during the first forty-five minutes of tonight’s game. The action on the pitch was rather evenly balanced and although FC Zurich had more possession of the ball, the visitors were not able to turn this advantage into any dangerous situations in their opponents’ penalty area.
After the half-time break, FC Zurich finally had their first promising opportunity in the 48th minute following a quick attack, but Raphael Dwamena’s shot was blocked by a Lugano defender.
It was then FC Lugano’s turn to open the score in the 69th minute, however, as Mariani scored the 1-0 for the home side with a one-timer. The visitors from Zurich managed to react to this deficit and scored the well-deserved 1-1 equalizer in the 80th minute when Marco Schönbächler beat Lugano keeper Joël Kiassumbua with a precise shot from the edge of the box.
Just before the final whistle, FC Lugano then had two dangerous chances to grab the three points: In the 90th minute, Zurich keeper Brecher deflected a shot by Domen Crnigoj against the post with his finger tips and a few moments later, an effort by Vladimir Golemic went over the crossbar.
Next Sunday afternoon, 27 May 2018, FC Zurich will be facing Young Boys Berne in the final of the Helvetia Swiss Cup at the Stade de Suisse (kick-off 2pm).
