FC Zurich draw FC St Gallen 0:0
This afternoon’s Super League game between FC Zurich and FC St Gallen at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a 0:0 draw.
FC Zurich had their first promising scoring opportunity of the game 10 minutes in, but the St Gallen defense managed to just deflect a cross by Antonio Marchesano into corner. And shortly thereafter, a shot on the turn again by Marchesano was off target by a narrow margin and the ball flew past the St Gallen goal (15th minute). FC Zurich kept pushing for the opening goal but in the 17th minute, Stephen Odey was also not able to find the means to beat keeper Dejan Stojanovic in the visitors‘ goal and find the back of the net.
In the 28th minute, a strike by St Gallen forward Cedric Itten whizzed narrowly past the left post. And only five minutes later, it was again Itten who missed the Zurich goal with a volley. One can certainly say that today’s game between FC Zurich and FC St Gallen was a very tight and evenly balanced affair.
After the half-time break, Mirlind Kryeziu had the next opportunity for FC Zurich in the 50th minute following a corner kick by Marco Schönbächler, but his header was aimed off target.
Both teams then had several scoring chances to decide the game in their favor. Michael Frey had the best of them for FC Zurich already in injury time, but the referee decided that he had started from an offside position and blew his whistle. And in the 92nd minute, a shot by Kololli from close range went over the crossbar.
Next Saturday evening, 18 August 2018, FC Zurich will be facing FC Concordia Basel away at the St. Jakob Park in Basel in the first round of the Helvetia Swiss Cup (kick-off 6.00pm).
