FC Zurich suffer 1:2 defeat against FC Sion
FC Zurich have lost their home game against FC Sion 1:2 this afternoon.
From kick-off, FC Zurich took control of the action on the pitch and soon created their first scoring opportunities. The best chances were those of Marchesano (direct free kick just over the crossbar in the 12th minute) and Stephen Odey, but the Sion defense was able to clear his ball to corner at the very last moment (16th minute). Twelve minutes later, Odey appeared all alone in front of Sion goalkeeper Fickentscher, but the goalie managed to save the Zurich player’s shot with his foot.
In the 59th minute, Assan Ceesay deflected a cross from Roberto Rodriguez against the post. Three minutes later, Marchesano put the home team 1:0 in front with a volley shot following a delivery by Salim Khelifi.
But unfortunately, FC Zurich were not able to defend this narrow lead as in the 71st minute, Pajtim Kasami equalized the score at 1:1. And things got even better for the visitors from the Canton of Valais – after Adryan’s shot from a narrow angle bounced off the post in the 81st minute, Yassin Fortune decided the game when he scored the 2:1 for FC Sion one minute later.
Although FC Zurich still had a few opportunities to equalize, the score remained unchanged 2:1 for FC Sion until the final whistle and FC Zurich suffered their first home defeat of the season.
On Saturday, 24 November 2018, FC Zurich will be facing Neuchâtel Xamax FCS away (kick-off 7pm).
