FC Zurich suffer 0-1 defeat against Young Boys Berne
FC Zurich have lost the away game against Young Boys Berne 0-1 this afternoon.
From kick-off and throughout the opening 15 minutes, Young Boys Berne put the FC Zurich players under pressure and had a number of excellent opportunities through Christian Fassnacht following a corner kick and Guillaume Hoarau with two dangerous headers.
The visitors from Zurich then got into the game a bit better and also managed to create a couple of chances. In the 18th minute, Adrian Winter played a perfectly timed pass into the run of Roberto Rodriguez who unfortunately didn’t succeed in beating Young Boys keeper Marco Wölfli. And since Raphael Dwamena wasn’t able to convert the follow-up shot either, the score remained 0-0.
The game now turned into an evenly balanced affair and both teams had several scoring opportunities. 36 minutes in, Winter flicked the ball on to Rodriguez with his head, but keeper Wölfli managed to keep out the FC Zurich player’s volley. And in the 45th minute, a header by Hoarau whizzed past the post by a few inches.
Just before the 70th minute, referee Sandro Schärer’s whistle sounded to signal a foul on Sanogo following a duel between Winter and the Young Boys player. And it was then the exact same Sanogo who scored the 1-0 in favor of Young Boys following the free-kick by Miralem Sulejmani. The team of head coach Ludovic Magnin did everything to react to this deficit and score the equalizer, but since they did not find the back of the net until the final whistle, the score remained 0-0.
Next Wednesday evening, 18 April 2018, FC Zurich will be hosting FC St Gallen at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 8pm).
