FC Zurich suffer 0-1 defeat against Grasshopper Club
FC Zurich have lost the Zurich derby against Grasshopper Club 0-1 this afternoon.
FC Zurich had their first scoring opportunity 10 minutes in when Pa Modou‘s cross from the left found Raphael Dwamena in the box. The Ghanaian striker tried to beat Grasshopper Club keeper Heinz Lindner with a one-timer, but the goalie managed to keep out the ball thanks to a very good save.
With their very first attack on the FC Zurich goal, the visitors then took the 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Jeffrén on 16 minutes. FC Zurich showed an immediate reaction, though, and just five minutes later, it was again the Grasshopper Club keeper who saved Michael Frey’s powerful header following a free-kick by Rodriguez. And the home side even had a couple more chances until the half-time whistle but unfortunately, the opportunities by Victor Pálsson after a corner-kick and Pa Modou with a shot from 20 meters were left unused.
In the 71st minute, Cédric Brunner picked up his second yellow card of the afternoon and was sent off. Although they were one man down for the remainder of the game, FC Zurich nonetheless tried to score the equalizer. However, they did not manage to do so and thus lost the Zurich derby 0-1 against an extremely efficient opponent.
Next Wednesday evening, 28 February 2018, FC Zurich will be hosting the same opponent in the Swiss Cup semi-final (kick-off 8.15pm).
