FC Zurich suffer 2-4 defeat against FC Thun
FC Zurich have lost their home game against FC Thun 2-4 this afternoon.
The home side had a good few opening minutes and managed to create two excellent opportunities shortly after kick-off; but both Adrian Winter and Rasmus Thelander were denied by the FC Thun goalkeeper.
However, it was then the visitors who caught FC Zurich off guard when they scored two goals within just three minutes: First, Dejan Sorgic headed home the ball to open the score on 8 minutes, and shortly thereafter, Moreno Costanzo took advantage of an individual blunder in the Zurich defense to double the visitors’ lead to 2-0 (11th minute).
FC Zurich tried to show an immediate reaction to this deficit: On 13 minutes, a goal by Michael Frey was disallowed due to an offside position. And when Roberto Rodriguez went to the ground in the FC Thun box ten minutes later, the referee decided not to award FC Zurich a penalty.
A few minutes after the half-time break, Marvin Spielmann increased FC Thun’s lead to 3-0. The FC Zurich players did not give up just yet, though: On 65 minutes, Adrian Winter got one back (1-3) and just four minutes later, Stephen Odey even scored the 2-3 for the home side. It now seemed like FC Zurich would be able to pull off a turnaround, but unfortunately, they did not manage to equalize the score despite several promising scoring opportunities – quite to the contrary: On 84 minutes, Moreno Costanzo finished off a Thun counter-attack to get his second goal of the afternoon and put the final score to 2-4 in favor of the visitors.
Next Sunday afternoon, 11 February 2018, FC Zurich will be facing FC St Gallen away (kick-off 4pm).
