FC Zurich suffer 0-3 defeat against FC Basel
FC Zurich have lost their away game against FC Basel 0-3 tonight.
FC Zurich had their first excellent scoring opportunity in the very first minute of tonight’s game, but FC Basel keeper Tomas Vaclik managed to just turn a volley by Victor Pálsson around the post with his fingertips. And seven minutes later, the visitors had another excellent opportunity when striker Raphael Dwamena shifted the ball to his left foot in the box, but unfortunately, he missed the goal with a shot that was way too wide.
A little against the run of play, the home side then took the lead on 16 minutes when Blas Riveros scored the 1-0 for FC Basel with his shot from a narrow angle. FC Zurich tried to show an immediate reaction and had another promising opportunity, but Michael Frey’s shot was aimed too high and the ball flew over the crossbar.
After 71 minutes, Basel’s Valentin Stocker doubled the home side’s advantage to 2-0 with a low shot. Although FC Zurich did not give up just yet, they didn’t manage to score until the final whistle. FC Basel, on the other hand, even put the score to 3-0 on 84 minutes when substitute Ricky van Wolfswinkel headed the ball into the Zurich net. In injury time, FC Zurich had another chance to score at least the consolation goal, but Marchesano’s curled free kick whizzed past the post by a narrow margin.
Next Sunday afternoon, 15 April 2018, FC Zurich will be facing Young Boys Berne away (kick-off 4pm).
