FC Zurich suffer 1-2 defeat against FC Lucerne
FC Zurich have lost their away game against FC Lucerne 1-2 this afternoon.
The home side from Lucerne had the better opening minutes of today’s game and managed to make the most of their very first opportunity to take the lead when Claudio Lustenberger scored the 1-0 for FC Lucerne just 6 minutes in. FC Zurich showed an immediate reaction, but a shot by striker Raphael Dwamena in the 10th minute was saved by the Lucerne keeper.
The visitors from Zurich got the equalizer still before the half-time whistle after Dwamena was fouled in the box by Silvan Sidler and the referee awarded FC Zurich a penalty, which Roberto Rodriguez converted without any problems to put his side level.
FC Zurich had the first opportunity of the second forty-five minutes but unfortunately, Dwamena’s shot was off target. The spectators then had to be patient and wait until the 73rd minute for FC Zurich’s next dangerous scoring chance again by Raphael Dwamena. A few moments later, Maren Haile-Selassie’s shot whizzed past the post by a margin (75th minute) and Toni Domgjoni’s effort was saved by Lucerne keeper Jonas Omlin.
Unfortunately, it was then FC Lucerne who decided today’s game in their favor in the 93rd minute when a pass to the back of the Zurich defense found Simon Grether who beat Brecher with an unstoppable strike.
Next Sunday afternoon, 29 April 2018, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Sion at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 4pm).
