Round of 16 of the Swiss Cup: FC Zurich beat FC Red Star Zurich 3:2
FC Zurich have won their game of the round of 16 of the Helvetia Swiss Cup against FC Red Star Zurich 3:2 tonight and are through to the quarter finals, where they will be facing SC Kriens.
With just two minutes gone, Khelifi scored the first goal of the game with a deflected shot and put the visitors 1:0 in front. And only six minutes later, FC Zurich increased their advantage to 2:0: Khelifi fought his way through in the penalty area and played a cross to Ceesay, who scored the second Zurich goal of the evening.
During the first thirty minutes, FC Zurich were in full control of the action on the pitch and in the 27th minute, they even increased their lead to 3:0 – Hakim Guenouche, who played his first official game for FC Zurich, got the better of his opponent, played a cross to Ceesay and the striker was on target again and got his second goal of the game. FC Red Star Zurich were not discouraged by this deficit, though, and their efforts paid off still before the half-time break as Argjend Gashi scored the first goal for the home side in the 36th minute, putting the score to 1:3.
After the break, a shot by Sohm from the edge of the penalty area was aimed a bit too high and the ball flew over the crossbar by just a few inches. Only a few moments later, FC Red Star Zurich managed to get another goal back (2:3) thanks to Cyrill Graf, who found the back of the net with a header.
Although both teams then had further chances to score more goals, the result remained unchanged until the final whistle and FC Zurich are through to the next round.
Next Sunday afternoon, 4 November 2018, FC Zurich will be facing FC Lucerne away (kick-off 4pm).
