1-1 draw between FC Zurich and PFC Ludogorets 1945
The UEFA Europa League group game between FC Zurich and PFC Ludogorets 1945 has ended in a 1-1 draw tonight.
The home team from Ludogorets had their first couple of scoring opportunities already during the opening minutes of the game: A direct free-kick by Rafael Forster eight minutes in was just narrowly off target and whizzed past the post and six minutes later, Zurich keeper Andris Vanins managed to save Jakub Swierczok’s powerful shot (14th minute) to keep his goal clear for the time being.
In the 21st minute, it was then FC Zurich’s turn as they used their first opportunity of the evening to take the lead. Following a free-kick by Benjamin Kololli, Stephen Odey’s header found the back of the net to open the score and put the visitors 1-0 in front. However, PFC Ludogorets 1945 were again the more dangerous side: After 28 minutes, Swierczok found himself all alone in front of Vanins, but the Zurich keeper was able to keep out his shot. And just four minutes later, a Marcelinho free-kick bounced off the crossbar (32nd minute). Nevertheless, Swierczok still equalized the score at 1-1 just before the half-time break.
Since neither team managed to score any goals during the second forty-five minutes, the score remained unchanged 1-1 until the final whistle and FC Zurich finish the UEFA Europa League group stage in second place.
Next Sunday afternoon, 16 December 2018, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Lugano at the Letzigrund Stadium in their final game of 2018 (kick-off 4pm).
