FC Zurich draw FC Lausanne-Sport 1-1
The Super League game between FC Zurich and FC Lausanne-Sport at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a 1-1 draw this afternoon.
During the opening ten minutes of this afternoon’s game, the visitors from Lausanne managed to push their opponents into their own half of the pitch. However, fortunately for FC Zurich, they did not succeed in converting any of their numerous corners, and a shot from long range by Benjamin Kololli was also off target. FC Zurich then also had their first scoring opportunities, among others by Antonio Marchesano, but his powerful shot bounced off the crossbar. And in the 21st minute, Michael Frey missed the goal of Lausanne keeper Thomas Castella by a few inches.
At the beginning of the second half, the home side pushed for the opener from kick-off. And these efforts paid off in the 53rd minute when Kevin Rüegg found Frey in the box with a through ball – and the Zurich striker scored the 1-0 with an unsaveable curled shot into the far corner of the net.
FC Zurich then tried to increase their advantage and had two excellent opportunities by Frey (63rd minute) and Rodriguez (66th minute). However, it was ultimately the visitors’ turn to equalize when Monteiro scored the 1-1 in the 88th minute.
Next Wednesday evening, 9 May 2018, FC Zurich will be facing FC Thun away (kick-off 8pm). And on Sunday, 13 May 2018, the team of head coach Ludovic Magnin will be hosting FC Basel (kick-off 4pm).
