FC Zurich beat FC Thun 2-0
FC Zurich have won their home game against FC Thun 2-0 this afternoon.
During the opening minutes of today’s clash with FC Thun, neither team was able to create any promising scoring opportunities. The home side had their first chance in the 16th minute when a shot by Denis Popovič from the edge of the penalty area flew over the crossbar by just a few inches.
The key moment of the game came in the 23rd minute. After Mimoun Mahi had been fouled by Miguel Castroman, the Thun player was sent off with a red card and the visitors were one man down for the remainder of the game. FC Zurich now took control of the action on the pitch and got the opener in the 41st minute when Sohm scored his first-ever FC Zurich goal.
Shortly after the half-time break, the home team doubled their lead to two goals: Tosin got the better of his opponent and hammered the ball into the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar (52nd minute). Despite their numerical disadvantage, the visitors still earned some scoring opportunities by Basil Stillhart and Simone Rapp.
FC Zurich also had several good chances to score their third goal of the afternoon by Mimoun Mahi and Willie Britto, but the score remained unchanged 2-0 until the final whistle.
Next Wednesday evening, 25 September 2019, FC Zurich will be facing FC Basel away (kick-off 8pm).
