FC Zurich celebrate 3-2 victory against FC Basel
FC Zurich have won their home game against FC Basel 3-2 this afternoon.
FC Zurich got off to a promising start to today’s game and had two good opportunities to open the score already in the fourth minute thanks to a deflected shot from Antonio Marchesano and a header from Tosin, who missed the goal by just a few inches.
In the 15th minute, the visitors from Basel took the lead, though: After Nathan had fouled Cömert in the box, referee Urs Schnyder awarded FC Basel a penalty. Campo grabbed the ball and put his side 1-0 in front. But luckily enough, FC Zurich were able to react immediately to this deficit. Tosin took advantage of the fact that the Basel players lost possession of the ball and equalized the score 1-1 in the 19th minute.
And things got even better for FC Zurich in the 33rd minute, when Tosin broke away from several of his opponents, played a well-timed pass to Schönbächler, who put the home side 2-1 in the lead with a curled shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
Shortly after the half-time break, FC Basel then equalized the score 2-2 when Cömert headed the ball into the Zurich goal (48th minute). But again, FC Zurich managed to show an immediate reaction to the goal conceded: In the 61st minute, FC Zurich won the ball and Toni Domgjoni played a cross to Kramer, who beat Basel keeper Djordje Nikolic to put the home team 3-2 up. It turned out to be the game-winning goal and was Kramer's first in an official match for FC Zurich.
Next Wednesday evening, 30 October 2019, FC Zurich will be facing Young Boys away at the Stade de Suisse in the last 16 of the Swiss Cup (kick-off 8.15pm).
