FC Zurich beat FC Sion 1-0
FC Zurich have won their home game against FC Sion 1-0 this afternoon.
The visitors from the canton of Valais put their opponents from FC Zurich under considerable pressure from kick-off and were awarded several set-pieces during the opening minutes of the game – but luckily enough, the team of head coach Murat Yakin did not manage to make use of any of these opportunities.
FC Zurich had their first promising opportunity of the afternoon in the 12th minute: Following a quick counterattack, a deflected shot by Assan Ceesay was off target and the ball whizzed past the goal of Sion keeper Kevin Fickentscher by a few inches. Just before the half-time whistle, Ceesay again narrowly missed the goal with a volley (44th minute) and one minute later, Sion captain Xavier Kouassi blocked a shot from Toni Domgjoni at the very last moment.
In the 59th minute, FC Sion had their biggest chance of the game when Pajtim Kasami's deflected shot bounced of the post. After a header by Kryeziu had crashed against the crossbar on 61 minutes, Odey finally scored the 1-0 for the home team in the 69th minute following a corner by Antonio Marchesano.
The players from Valais were not able to react to this deficit and the score remained 1-0 until the final whistle, with FC Zurich grabbing all three points today.
Next Saturday evening, 4 May 2019, FC Zurich will be facing FC Basel away (kick-off 7pm).
