FC Zurich beat Neuchâtel Xamax FCS 2-1
FC Zurich have won their away game against Neuchâtel Xamax FCS 2-1 tonight and have celebrated an important win.
Already in the second minute of tonight’s game, the visitors from Zurich had their first scoring opportunity of the evening through Marco Schönbächler, but his shot was aimed too high and the ball went over the crossbar. Neuchâtel Xamax FCS had their first good opportunity in the 16th minute, but luckily enough for the visitors, Zurich defender Umaru Bangura was able to clear the ball for his already beaten keeper Yanick Brecher.
Shortly after the half-time break, Neuchatel Xamax FCS still took the lead when Ademi scored the 1-0 following a counterattack (49th minute). And ten minutes later, the home side even had the chance to double their lead to two goals through Pululu (59th minute).
FC Zurich fought against the deficit and had two good opportunities to equalize by Yann Kasaï in the 62nd and 63rd minute. But in the 77th minute, the visitors’ efforts were finally rewarded: Ceesay got the better of his opponent and played the ball to Rüegg, who scored the 1-1 equalizer. And only a few minutes later, Rüegg scored his second goal of the evening to put FC Zurich 2-1 in front.
Neuchâtel Xamax FCS were not able to come back from this deficit, so FC Zurich grabbed all three points tonight and celebrated an important victory.
Next Wednesday evening, 15 May 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Thun at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 8pm).
