FC Zurich beat Servette FC 1-0
FC Zurich have won their away game against Servette FC 1-0 this afternoon.
Koro Koné scored what everyone thought was the opening goal for the home side in the very first minute of the game, but VAR intervened and ruled out the goal due to an offside position. In the 5th minute, Assan Ceesay had the first chance for FC Zurich after he had intercepted the ball, but his effort was kept out by Servette keeper Jérémy Frick. Following a corner by Schönbächler, the visitors had their next chance through Nathan, but his header was off target and the ball flew past the post (15th minute).
FC Zurich then took the lead in the 33rd minute: Schönbächler fought his way through the penalty area and found Marchesano with a cross, who headed the ball into the back of the net to put the visitors 1-0 up.
Just four minutes after the goal, Servette’s Stevanovic was awarded his second yellow card of the afternoon for a foul on Ceesay and was sent off. FC Zurich had a couple more chances to score their second goal still before half-time, but a shot from long range by Pa Modou (39th minute) and a shot by Marchesano (42nd minute) were not crowned by success.
Throughout the second half, FC Zurich unfortunately did not manage to take advantage of their numerical superiority and were only able to create several scoring opportunities on counter-attacks towards the end of the game through Mimoun Mahi, Marchesano, Blaž Kramer and Schönbächler. However, the score remained unchanged until the final whistle and FC Zurich got to celebrate a narrow 1-0 away win.
Next Sunday afternoon, 6 October 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting Young Boys Berne at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 4pm).
