FC Zurich beat FC Black Stars 2:1
FC Zurich have won their first-round match of the Helvetia Swiss Cup against Promotion League side FC Black Stars 2:1 away tonight.
After a good scoring opportunity for Robin Adamczyk from FC Black Stars in the very first minute of the game, FC Zurich took control of the action on the pitch.
Eight minutes in, FC Black Stars keeper Steven Oberle kept out a header by Blaž Kramer. And just one minute later, he managed to save a penalty taken by Mahi, awarded after Kramer had been fouled in the box (9th minute). However, with their very next corner taken by Denis Popovič, the visitors from Zurich still took the lead when Mahi headed the ball home to open the score 1:0 (10th minute). This lead did not last long though, as the Zurich defense lost possession of the ball and Gomes took advantage of this blunder to equalize the score (1:1) for the home team.
In the second half, FC Black Stars were also awarded a penalty, but the shot from Alic crashed against the crossbar. After several opportunities by Assan Ceesay were not crowned with success (shot (61st minute) and header (64th minute) past the post as well as a shot saved by keeper Oberle in the 74th minute), Nathan finally scored the 2:1 to secure victory for FC Zurich as his header found the back of the net following a Popovič delivery in the 83rd minute.
In the round of 32 of the Helvetia Swiss Cup, FC Zurich will be facing FC Wil away on 14 or 15 September 2019. Next Saturday evening, 24 August 2019, FC Zurich will be facing Young Boys Berne away (kick-off 7pm).
