1-1 draw in 274th Zurich derby
The 274th Zurich derby between FC Zurich and Grasshopper Club has ended in a 1-1 draw tonight.
After a rather slow start to the game, the first delicate situation in the home team's penalty area happened on 13 minutes as Salim Khelifi's cross bounced off the hand of Nedim Bajrami, but referee Pascal Erlachner's whistle remained silent.
FC Zurich then took control of the action on the pitch and opened the score in the 30th minute when Assan Ceesay found the back of the net via the inside of the post with a powerful low shot to put the visitors 1-0 in front. During the next few minutes, FC Zurich had two excellent opportunities to even double their lead to 2-0: a shot from Kharabadze was saved by Grasshopper Club keeper Heinz Lindner (34th minute), and a shot from long range by Joel Untersee was off target and the ball bounced off the post (37th minute).
Shortly after the half-time break, Grasshopper Club managed to equalize the score 1-1 thanks to a header by Ravet. FC Zurich still had plenty of chances to score another goal throughout the second half: a deflected shot by Kharabadze in the 62nd minute was just wide and the ball whizzed past the post. Ten minutes later, a shot from Ceesay also went past the goal (71st minute), and a little later, Ceesay missed a low cross from Untersee by a couple of inches (78th minute). Consequently, the score remained 1-1 until the final whistle.
Next Sunday afternoon, 14 April 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting Young Boys Berne at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 4pm).
