FC Zurich draw FC Lugano 0-0
The away game between FC Zurich and FC Lugano has ended in a 0-0 draw this afternoon.
FC Zurich took control of the action on the pitch from kick-off and had considerably more ball possession during the opening minutes than their opponents from Lugano. Nevertheless, it was the home team that had the first scoring opportunity through Mattia Bottani following a quick counterattack, but Zurich keeper Yanick Brecher was able to keep out this shot with his foot (7th minute). In the 10th minute, the visitors then also had their first chance to open the score through Antonio Marchesano and his shot from long range.
FC Zurich were the more dominant side also throughout the second half; however, FC Lugano remained extremely dangerous with their fast counterattacks. In the 71st minute, Marchesano came very close to FC Zurich’s opening goal with another long-range shot, but the ball crashed against the right post. And just four minutes later, Lugano keeper Da Costa managed to deny Simon Sohm as he deflected his shot over the crossbar.
In the 79th minute, a powerful shot from almost 30 meters by FC Lugano’s Marco Aratore bounced off the corner of the goalpost. Thus, this afternoon’s game ended in a goalless draw.
Next Sunday afternoon, 27 October 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Basel at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 4pm).
