FC Zurich suffer 0-4 defeat against FC Basel
FC Zurich have lost their away game against FC Basel 0-4 tonight.
With their very first opportunity of the evening, FC Basel opened the score when Cabral headed the ball home following a cross by Taulant Xhaka to put the home side 1-0 in front (9th minute). FC Zurich had their first chance in the 16th minute, but a shot from Mimoun Mahi after a pass by Marco Schönbächler was off target and the ball flew past the post.
FC Basel had several good opportunities to increase their lead to two goals. However, it was the visitors from Zurich who had the last chance of the first half in the 39th minute: Kevin Rüegg fought his way through the Basel penalty area and the ball bounced off the arm of Basel defender Emil Bergström, but the whistle of referee Alain Bieri remained silent.
Shortly after the start of the second half, Bua doubled the home team’s lead to 2-0 on a quick counterattack (51st minute). Unfortunately, the visitors from Zurich managed to only create a few opportunities throughout the second 45 minutes. FC Basel, on the other hand, scored two more goals through Zhegrova (80th minute) and Campo (90th minute) to put the final score to 4-0.
Next Sunday afternoon, 29 September 2019, FC Zurich will be facing Servette FC away (kick-off 4pm).
