FC Zurich suffer 0-1 defeat against FC Lugano
FC Zurich have lost their home game against FC Lugano 0-1 this afternoon.
FC Zurich got off to a good start to the game, with more ball possession during the opening minutes, and had a couple of scoring opportunities by Lavdim Zumberi (shot over the crossbar), Stephen Odey (FC Lugano keeper Noam Baumann saved his header in the 18th minute) and Grégory Sertic (denied by the keeper as he saved Sertic’s two shots in the 20th minute).
In the 30th minute, FC Lugano opened the score as Gerndt picked up a pass from Armando Sadiku and beat Zurich keeper Brecher to put the visitors from Ticino 1-0 in front. FC Zurich failed to react to this deficit during the remainder of the first half. But just moments before the half-time whistle, FC Lugano’s Akos Kecskes was sent off after his second yellow card of the afternoon.
Throughout the second half and until the final whistle, FC Zurich were unfortunately not able to profit from their numerical advantage and failed to convert any of their numerous chances: headers by Assan Ceesay (76th minute), Levan Kharabadze (78th minute) and Alain Nef (83rd minute) as well as a powerful shot from the edge of the box again by Ceesay were not crowned with success.
FC Zurich finally equalized the score in the 89th minute, but unfortunately, Alain Nef's goal was disallowed due to an offside position.
Next Sunday afternoon, 10 March 2019, FC Zurich will be facing FC Thun away (kick-off 4pm).
