FC Zurich suffer 0:3 defeat against FC Lucerne
FC Zurich have lost their away game against FC Lucerne 0:3 tonight.
After only two minutes, FC Zurich had their first scoring opportunity of the game as Assan Ceesay almost took advantage of a loss of the ball in the Lucerne defense, but unfortunately, the Zurich striker did not manage to control the ball as he would have liked. Subsequently, FC Lucerne commanded the game and just 8 minutes in, the home side took the 1:0 lead thanks to a low shot from Vargas.
FC Lucerne continued to put the visitors under considerable pressure and had several promising opportunities to increase their lead. In the 29th minute, these efforts were rewarded as FC Zurich defender Mirlind Kryeziu deflected a square pass from Eleke into his team’s own net (2:0).
FC Zurich had the first opportunity after the half-time break; however, FC Lucerne keeper David Zibung managed to keep out Kololli’s header without any problems. And with their very next attack on the Zurich goal, Vargas scored the third goal for FC Lucerne (3:0) in the 51st minute – it was his second goal of the evening.
Since FC Zurich were not able to score until the final whistle, the score remained unchanged and the team of head coach Ludovic Magnin suffered a 0:3 away defeat.
Next Saturday evening, 25 May 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting FC St Gallen at the Letzigrund Stadium for the final game of the season (kick-off 7pm).
