FC Zurich suffer 0-4 defeat against FC Lugano
FC Zurich have lost their first game of the 2019/2020 season against FC Lugano 0-4 this afternoon.
FC Zurich made a rather promising start to the game, though, and had their first two scoring opportunities already in the second and six minutes by Assan Ceesay, albeit from an offside position, and Benjamin Kololli. However, Lugano keeper Noam Baumann was able to keep out both shots.
In the 22nd minute of the game, the home side had their next chance through Kololli following a delivery by Marchesano, but his effort was again saved by keeper Baumann and the Ticino defense was able to block the follow-up shot.
With their very next attack on the Zurich goal, the visitors from Lugano then opened the score and took the lead: Jonathan Sabbatini was fouled in the box and Maric converted the penalty to put FC Lugano 1-0 in front. Nine minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead to 2-0 thanks to a perfectly timed curled shot into the corner by Aratore (39th minute). And still before the half-time break, former FC Zurich player Rodriguez fought his way through in the box and put the score to 3-0 (45th minute).
The home team did not manage to score throughout the second half. Instead, Bálint Vécsei even scored the 4-0 for the visitors from Ticino in the 79th minute.
Next Sunday afternoon, 28 July 2019, FC Zurich will be facing FC Lucerne away (kick-off 4pm).
