FC Zurich suffer 0-3 defeat against FC Lugano
FC Zurich have lost their away game against FC Lugano 0-3 tonight.
FC Lugano got off to a better start than the visitors from Zurich and had their first good scoring opportunity in the 12th minute through Carlinhos Junior, but his curled shot was slightly off target and the ball flew past the Zurich goal. FC Zurich had their first promising opportunity in the 23rd minute; however, Stephen Odey's shot was deflected and the ball missed the Lugano goal by just a few inches.
In the 40th minute, Carlinhos Junior scored the first goal of the evening to put FC Lugano 1-0 in front; Alexander Gerndt had provided the assist. The visitors from Zurich had the first chance of the second half shortly after the break, but Toni Domgjoni's shot was unfortunately saved by Lugano keeper Baumann (55th minute).
Instead of the Zurich equalizer, Petar Brlek ultimately decided tonight’s game when he doubled Lugano’s advantage to 2-0 in the 84th minute. In injury time, Carlinhos then even scored his second goal of the evening to put the final score to 3-0 for the home side from Lugano.
Next Thursday evening, 25 April 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Basel at the Letzigrund Stadium in the Helvetia Swiss Cup semi-finals (kick-off 8.15pm).
