FC Zurich suffer 1:3 defeat against FC Sion
FC Zurich have lost their away game against FC Sion 1:3 tonight. FC Sion made the most of their first scoring opportunity to open the score 1:0 as FC Zurich keeper Yanick Brecher was surprised by a cross from Lenjani that found its way into the visitors’ net (7th minute).
After 20 minutes, FC Zurich were able to equalize the game at 1:1 when Mahi converted a cross from Antonio Marchesano and headed the ball into the Sion goal; it was his first goal in an official game for FC Zurich. And the visitors had some more chances to score again – Kramer missed a cross from Willie Britto (25th minute), a shot from Marchesano seven minutes later was just off target and the ball flew past the post (32nd minute), and shots from long range by Toni Domgjoni (36th minute) and Marco Schönbächler (41st minute) were also not crowned by success.
After a foul against Schönbächler by Sion’s Ayoub Abdellaoui in the penalty box, FC Zurich were awarded a penalty but unfortunately, Benjamin Kololli’s spot-kick only hit the outside of the post (71st minute). Just moments later, Abdellaoui was sent off with his second yellow card of the evening (72nd minute). Nevertheless, it was still FC Sion who grabbed all three points thanks to two goals scored by Kasami in the 81st and 83rd minute to put the final score to 3:1 in favor of the home side.
Next Sunday afternoon, 11 August 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting Neuchâtel Xamax FCS at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 4pm).
