FC Zurich suffer 1:3 defeat against FC St Gallen
FC Zurich have lost their first game of the second half of the season 1:3 away against FC St Gallen tonight.
The visitors from Zurich got off to a better start and had their first scoring opportunity after seven minutes through Salim Khelifi, but his deflected cross flew just over the crossbar.
But it was then the home team that took the 1:0 lead: Simone Rapp got the better of defender Andreas Maxsø and pushed the ball past Zurich keeper Brecher and over the line.
FC Zurich reacted immediately and had several opportunities to equalize the score by Toni Domgjoni (long-range shot from around 20 meters in the 18th minute), Andreas Maxsø, who missed a cross by Benjamin Kololli (27th minute), and Stephen Odey, who missed a cross into the penalty area by Levan Kharabadze by a few centimeters (33rd minute).
After the half-time break, it was again Rapp who doubled FC St Gallen’s lead to 2:0 (55th minute). And in the 71st minute, the home team even put the score to 3:0 thanks to a goal by Majeed Ashimeru. Five minutes after this third goal, Odey managed to get one back for FC Zurich (1:3). This score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
Next Saturday, 9 February 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting local rivals Grasshopper Club Zurich for the 273rd Zurich derby (kick-off 7pm).
