FC Zurich draw Neuchâtel Xamax 2:2
The home game between FC Zurich and Neuchâtel Xamax FCS has ended in a 2:2 draw this afternoon.
During the first half, the Zurich players had several good scoring opportunities by Antonio Marchesano (header in the 2nd minute), again Marchesano with a deflected cross (9th minute) and Mahi (34th minute).
Nevertheless, FC Zurich took the lead still before the half-time break as Schönbächler opened the score with his 1:0 for the home team following a nice combination play with Mahi, Toni Domgjoni and Blaž Kramer. The visitors from Neuchâtel were able to equalize the score in the 63rd minute, though, when Ošs found the back of the net to put the score to 1:1 after a corner.
Following a handball by Igor Djuric in the box, the referee awarded FC Zurich a penalty (73rd minute). Mahi stepped up but, unfortunately, his shot was off target and the ball crashed against the crossbar.
However, FC Zurich managed to take the lead again: Mahi got the better end of his opponent on the left and found Assan Ceesay, who scored the 2:1 (77th minute) with a powerful volley shot into the roof of the goal. And in the second minute of stoppage time, FC Zurich almost scored their third goal of the evening, but a magnificent shot from long range by Levan Kharabadze was not crowned by success and the ball bounced off the post. Instead, Karlen equalized the score 2:2 in the 94th minute with an overhead kick.
Next Wednesday evening, 14 August 2019, FC Zurich will be hosting FC St.Gallen at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 7pm).
