Last 16 of the Swiss Cup: FC Zurich suffer 0-4 defeat against Young Boys Berne
FC Zurich have lost their last 16 game of the Swiss Cup against Young Boys Berne 0-4 tonight.
FC Zurich got off to a bad start to tonight’s game: After just seven minutes, Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu took advantage of a bad pass by the FC Zurich players and beat keeper Yanick Brecher to put the home side 1-0 in front.
The FC Zurich players were able to show an immediate reaction to this goal, though, and had several opportunities to score the equalizer, namely by Aiyegun Tosin (shot from an acute angle) and Marchesano (curled shot from the edge of the penalty area). Kramer had the best chance to equalize the score at 1-1 in the 20th minute: The Zurich striker got possession of the ball in the penalty area, got the better end of his opponent, but then failed to beat keeper Von Ballmoos.
Young Boys Berne were the more efficient side and doubled their lead still before the half-time break when Fassnacht scored the 2-0 (45th minute). After the break, FC Zurich also kept on searching for their first goal and had several opportunities, but unfortunately, they were not able to convert any of them. Instead, the home team scored two more goals until the final whistle through Frederik Sörensen (3-0 in the 73rd minute) and Nsamé (4-0 in the 91st minute).
As a result of this defeat, FC Zurich have been eliminated from the Helvetia Swiss Cup competition 2019/2020. Next Saturday evening, 2 November 2019, they will be facing FC Thun away (kick-off 7pm).
